University of Delaware Sports Physical Therapy Residency

Overview:

The Sports Physical Therapy Residency at the University of Delaware is a 13.5 month experience that provides the resident with a unique post-professional mentored learning experience. The resident will have structured didactic experiences in the operating room and classroom, provide on-the-field coverage in a mentored environment, practice using the best available evidence and develop advanced clinical practice skills. Residents also have opportunity to present at national meetings as well as write and publish literature reviews, clinical commentaries, and book chapters.

Sports Physical Therapy Residents will be employed by the University of Delaware and will be eligible for salary, benefits, and tuition reimbursement. The resident will be expected to participate in a minimum of 15-20 hours of patient care, 8-15 hours of on-the-field experience, and 15-20 hours of physician-resident mentoring per week.

 

Application Process:

Physical therapists licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Delaware are encouraged to apply. The application must include a current curriculum vitae, 3 letters of recommendation, graduate school transcripts, and a career statement. We accept two residents per year:
-Resident 1: January 1-Feburary 15th -Resident 2: June 1-July 15

UDPT Sports and Orthopedics Physical Therapy Clinic UD Athletic Training & Sports Medicine Center First State Orthopedics and First State Surgery Center New Castle Associates in Podiatry.

 

Educational Activities:

Educational experiences include Sports PT journal club, Specialty Clinic, Rounds, Running injury clinic, and Sports and Performing Arts Club Clinic Screening. The resident may also elect to assume some teaching responsibilities in Sports PT-related courses (The Sports elective and Musculoskeletal Evaluation and Treatment Orthopedics Courses).
